another weekend trip. waitomo. about 2.5hrs drive away.
-DAY 1- me and wanxuan. looking all happy and excited to go. as usual. the 1st day is for driving. no plans.scenery along the way. i thought it was a pretty sight. a good mix of colours. heh.-DAY 2- the girls went for a cave tour while the guys went advantageous. waitomo is famous for nothing but CAVES! whole loads of them!this is one that we visited. ruakuri.the tunnel leading to the cave. quite cool ah.the insides. its pretty interesting how they are formed. it follows the flow of water and hardens over time. takes like 100years for 1cubic centremetre to "grow". amazing ah! this kind of looks like a harp to me. heh.huge cauliflower!!many many spikes. initially i was a little insecure. they look like they can fall on you anytime! but they were throughout the whole journey. so got used to it. heh. the story behind this: whoever discover the cave gets to keep it. so the 1st man discovered it and displayed this. shortly after. the government kind of took the cave away. due to conservation purposes. but for some reason. the cave was returned to the 1st man again. haha. so now it is privately owned once again. and i conclude that the 1st man must be super rich now!!it was pretty dark throughout. and i didn't like being the last at all. it freaks me out thinking of what can be behind me:( so sweet wanxuan offered be the last. aww. very comforting! thank you wanxuan. heh. you are very brave. haha.so the whole area was litted up with minimal lights. and some passage way were narrow as well. this is my main reason for going waitomo. glow worms! the little strings you see dangling are their fishing rods. they are formed in a way similar to how spiders form their web. and the light attracts their bait. so this is how they get food!a closer look at one. heh. i know its not very clear. best one already! haha. this is taken with wanxuan shining my handphone torch at it. plus my camera flash! imagine how dark it is.ta-da! haha. glow worms. the little spots. difficult to capture them. please use your imagination. many of them clustering together. patches here and there:) millions of them in another cave. a super pretty sight. like stars. just much much nearer to you.end of the tour le! me aik khoon and onyx.next up is rabbit shearing! yes yes. you hear right. heh.the rabbits are really huge! and very well kept. they are only brought here to be sheared. 4 times each year. other than that. they are being kept in a barn. with vast space area to hop about. heh. 350 of them in total.i think this one is cute with the ears. special! here is the live shearing. this lady is experienced. so the rabbit is extremely calm and comfortable. it is only 9months old but so huge already. generally. rabbits can live up to 8-9years.in the process. the four limbs were tied. looks pretty cruel. but i guess it prevents the rabbit from getting hurt. looks like loads of fur. but only about 50grams. good quality though. do you know that their expenses on food is 3k a month! haha. lucky little rabbits. good food nice place many friends.thereafter. the fur is combined with a string.a closer look. do you know that just by holding the rabbit fur in your palm. you can actually feel the warmth. but it takes awhile. amazing:)ta-da! before shearing! not fat. just fluffy!:) adorable. this is after. heh. naked little rabbit.this is to show the contrast! HUGE! this marks the end of the 2nd day. our full strength! the one in sunglasses is a new friend. he introduced himself as MO. his surname ba. he's from HK.unfortunately. a few of them have to head back. so there were only 5 of us left the next day. the 2nd part for next time:)
