bay of islands.
-DAY 2-
we went for a full day ride with fullers.
went to a couple of places. pretty interesting.
the driver was entertaining too. effort!
1st stop was at this place where huge trees grow.
i cant exactly remember the name of the tree.
but i know they are a protected species.
and it sure takes long to grow them.
and they make very good timber!
really huge! we look so mini.
then it was lunch stop. pretty view:)
this is what you use to weigh your catch!
its pretty intimidating when you stand right under it.
it has a huge evil-looking hook that look as if it might fall on you anytime.
another view. a combination of sand and the sea.
i wonder how long the boats must wait before they can head out again.
they look kinda stuck in the sand.
some dead logs. black ones. interesting.
this is what we call pampas grass.
it is introduced into new zealand from argentina.
somehow it got out of hand. so its randomly growing everywhere.
in the north especially. patches of it every now and then.
its quite an ugly sight. the driver says.
but i think it has its own beauty. hmm.
this is another short stop.
and there were the same huge trees again!
and happily. we conquered it. haha!
look at that. one tree can probably fit millions of people.
we should really start investing in tree houses. lol.
the next stop was cape reinga.
the highlight is the lighthouse.
this is the highest tip of the north island.
quite a pretty sight. what we see is the endless sea.
and this is where the tasman sea and south pacific ocean met.
driver says it is a spectacular sight.
with the waves fiercing gushing at each other.
but we only got this. haha.
it was quite a long way there actually.
but good thing the weather is great!

and we finally reached! the NUS team. haha.

its a full day of driving! took us about 4hours to reach paihia.
did 2 stops! for lunch and at the honey centre:)
this is taken at the honey centre. nothing about the honey.
i just love red trees. so pretty. singapore should try to grow some. haha.
that's about it for the 1st day. whiny roads all the way.

but what was left was only london and sydney.
the rest were missing. i guess it must be the strong winds.

the next stop! sandboarding! this is how it works.
you take a board and climb all the way up. its quite a long climb.
then u lay face down on the board and slide down!
its a very interesting exercise.
a pity we didnt know before hand.
so being unprepared. the girls didnt go for it.
only ian went. and he sure had fun!
as always. cute kids around. so lovable!
the last stop of the day. is the ninety mile beach.
it is realllllly long! we were travelling on the sand.
the driver has to be very cautious or we might just get stuck there.
we managed to get down at some point to take pictures.
this is only a mini part of the beach.
putting millions of this together and you get this!
you cant really see anything right. because it is really neverending!
and ian being ian. he loves NUS. and thus shows his appreciation.
we too join along. we cant possibly leave him alone right. haha.
so this ends our 2nd day:) there's one more day to go.
